John, can you please expand on your thoughts a little more? Do you mean it's not specific enough, or do you mean they're targetting the wrong thing, or do you mean they're not going far enough or what?
Although this is a video from a little while back, it's still one of Fr. Barron's best in explaining why we must stand up against the "culture of death". I am sad to see that there are many people even within the Church who are really unaware of how foolish and poisonous all of this obcession with the dark side really is. It's not that God isn't more powerful than His opposition because the truth is He is - but that we as humans must be vigilent and conscientious of how important it is for the spiritual wellbeing of our souls, to stay actively connecetd with God so that we have less chance of falling victim to depravities such as the "vampire craze" and the like. For those who have already fallen for such rubbish unbeknowningly, there is still hope because God's story of the Prodigal Son speaks loud and clear where any kind of falling away is concerned, be it to deceptions or addictions of any kind. As long as we are ready and willing to come back to Him with fullness of heart and a devotion that is sincere, God says He is always ready and waiting to forgive and reconcile us back to Him.
No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. - Matthew 6:24
Too many people these days, especially young people, thanks to the filthy media they are constantly exposed to, do not realize that love and sex are two completely different things. Of course two men can love each other- I love my dad, brother, Our Lord, the Pope, my priest, etc. It is perfectly natural and normal to love others, and it's just as natural to love someone and not be sexually attracted to them. Just as it's possible to have sex with someone you don't love. The question posed here shows the ignorance of many about what love really is. Two men who have sex with each other might love each other, but that is not why they have sex. Sex is carnal physical attraction and has nothing to do with love, though it is an act engaged in by married people who do indeed love each other.
My final installment on the possibility of salvation for atheists - hope it contributes to the questions about the issue recently after the Q&A debate two weeks ago. http://alegacyofgrace.blogspot.com/2012/04/ordinary-and-extraordinary-ways-of.html
Very well said. Was it so long ago that I was a young kid rebelling against religion? Thank God for strong Christians like this priest to set me straight!
That's excellent. It's sad to see how much of a reluctance there is amongst some people to move towards reconciliation down in the comments section. But that's the reality of the matter I guess.
This curb is dangerous because it is ignoring the seriousness of spiritual realities at work in our world today and basically giving the devil more of a foothold because these groups are trying to convince people his tricks and deceptions don't exist - they are only the result of "mental illness". This is only making that stupid enemy happy that he can go about his business largely ignored and unnoticed and meanwhile people continue to suffer because of it. Where has much of science led us? Down the path of accepting the unashamedly pagan worldview that seeks to ignore the fact that the power of spirit is real, whether good or bad. Why do I say this scientific proof stance is pagan? Secularism is indeed the true neo-paganism of this age and is deceitful in all its guises. Biblical narrative talks of Jesus using the power vested in Him by His Father to bring healing and set free all those who were under the power of satan. These are not metaphors but concrete ways of how Jesus experientially apprehended the world around Him, and this world, according to Jesus and His Christian community was one where the Light of God had to pierce through the darkness and that the spiritual forces present in the natural world were comprised of those that God had placed within His creation at the time of Creation as well as the competing evil forces set into motion by the fall and perpetuated by the unholy intentions of the devil. This is true Biblical reality about the world we live in and the more science tries to convince people that this is false, the more people unaware are going to be led astray.
This is a highjack, not a serious contribution to the “new evangelization.” The writers of this document should be made to give some account of how they were evangelized before they ask anyone to seriously listen to their weak proposals.
Hi Daniel, I saw from your profile you are from Melbourne. If you live somewhere in the west, you are very welcome to come along to our youth group! We are at St Peter Chanel in Deer Park, and we use the term 'youth' quite loosely. Most of us are in early twenties (i'm 27). We do a mix of things - rosary every week, talks, games, praise and worship, sport, activities, monthly adoration. We don't really have a label to describe the youth group (it's a parish group so we don't really align with a particular church movement or spirituality) - we just love God and the church, and are blessed to have a community of young people to share this with.
Actually, more appropriate, I find there are people who 'go to church', leave and then apparently never think again about it until the next week - they don't talk about it or do anything but attend and can be tight lipped as to why. But I find that I would not want to necessarily engage in social chit-chat with parishioners after mass if that is all that it was - cause you can do that anywhere with anyone and so what. But if the interaction involved faith sharing and discussion then that would be meaningful. Some christians I know love to talk about God and its truly great to have such discussions; it enhances faith and brings us closer as people.
