What does it mean that God is Triune? Christians believe in one God but this God is a communion of persons. The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Where did this complex idea of the Trinity come from? Well in the history of revelation God made one thing clear - that there is only one God. Then came Jesus and by forgiving sins and referring the Divine name to himself he made it clear he is also God and then it is explained that the Holy Spirit is God just like the Father and the Son.
