WYD Website to Feature Monthly Prayerful Readings for Youth

In February 2013, the official website for World Youth Day Rio2013 will launch a new channel called "Prepare," featuring content for the spiritual formation of WYD pilgrims. Content will include a Lectio Divina - i.e. prayerful readings for young people, with a different theme every month.

Prisoners Help Prepare Rio's Youth Day

Some 50 male and 30 female prisoners have been trained for a project, in which they work six-hour days four days a week. The prisoners are crafting rosaries, bracelets, and other articles to be used in the WYD packages.

Organizing Committee for WYD Rio 2013 Greets Pope After Rome Meeting

This week, the organizing committee for WYD in Rio de Janeiro spent several days in Rome working out the details of the papal visit. The group, composed of civil and ecclesiastical leaders from Brazil, briefly greeted Benedict XVI after Wednesday's general audience.

A “Bioethics Survival Kit” for World Youth Day Pilgrims

The young people from all five continents who gather in Rio in July 2013 for World Youth Day will find in their backpacks a “bioethics survival kit”: a special WYD edition of A Student’s Guide to Bioethics, produced by the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation at the request of the Pontifical Academy for Life and the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

What Souvenirs Do I Take as a Modern Pilgrim?

When heading overseas for a modern pilgrimage the people you meet are just as important as the experiences and the sites you visit. It would be great to be able to give them something to remember the encounter with. So in your preparation you need to think about what souvenirs that you will give to people you meet along your journey. You will most likely be hosted by some other groups, stay in someone’s house or meet other pilgrims looking to swap items.

First Deaf Volunteer Produces Videos for the Hearing Impaired

Vanessa will produce videos for the hearing impaired through the Brazilian SignLanguage (Libras) and texts about the videos. The first video will be produced for the "Welcome". Through language LIBRAS, Vanessa said that it is very important to make videos for the hearing impaired because with this audiovisual material, they can get misinformed about what happens at WYD.
