The Holy Father has invited young people to focus for the next several years on the Beatitudes, the eight Blessings which Jesus explained in the Sermon on the Mount. Specifically, Pope Francis chose the following themes for the three-year spiritual journey:

Major Events for WYD2016 to Be Held in Kraków's Blonia Park

The main meeting of youth with the Pope during World Youth Day in July 2016 will take place in Blonia Park – which is a vast meadow with an area of 48 hectares directly adjacent to the historic centre of the city of Kraków, Poland.

World Youth Day Kraków Will Take Place in Late July 2016

During a recent plenary meeting for Polish Catholic Bishops, Kraków Archbishop Stanislaw Cardinal Dziwisz announced that World Youth Day in Kraków will be held during the last week of July 2016. At this stage it is planned that the main events will be held in Jordan Park, as well as the two stadiums in Kraków. It is also planned that Pope Francis will arrive for the official welcome by boat on the Vistula River.

The official World Youth Day office in Kraków has launched a page on the social network "Ask", so pilgrims all over the world can start asking questions about plans for World Youth Day 2016. At the moment all the questions are in Polish... but feel free to post up your questions in English also!

Monthly Masses in Kraków to Prepare for World Youth Day 2016

On the 16th day of every month, Holy Mass will be celebrated in the Holy Cross church in Kraków, inviting the people of the city to pray for World Youth Day 2016. The 16th day of the month was chosen to commemorate 16 October 1978, when Karol Wojtyla was elected as a Pope.

Kraków - Where the 20th Century Happened

During the 20th century, Kraków and its people suffered terribly under both Nazi and communist occupation; the murders at Auschwitz took place a few dozen kilometers away; the city-without-God, Nowa Huta, was built outside Kraków as payback for the city’s failure to vote correctly in a bogus communist election.
