Invitation to iCat - A Meeting of WYD Pilgrims to Discuss Social Networking

More than 2 years ago a social network of hundreds of thousands of people was established on the topic of World Youth Day 2011. Now, WYD has arranged meeting, called “iCat”, intended to be an encounter between all those who participate in social networks. The objective is to be a point of encounter of personal experiences of ways in which Catholics live their faith through social networking.

St. John of Avila, a Doctor of the Church Who Stood Out Among Religious Giants

He's a saint who is not very well known outside of Spain, but nonetheless, he's a key figure in the Catholic Church. His message inspired St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila and St. Ignatius of Loyola. He's also credited with the conversion of St. John of God and St. Francis Borgia. His name is St. John of Ávila, the patron of Spanish priests. He is one of the patrons of World Youth Day in Madrid. In fact, the Pope is planning on declaring him Doctor of the Church during that gathering!

The Vatican has launched a new application. It's called “iGPII” and allows you to follow World Youth Day from your iPhone or iPad. It will be available starting 1 August 2011 in five languages: English, Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Historic Spanish Music Group to Welcome Pope in Madrid for WYD11

This group of student musicians call themselves the “tunos”. They follow an old Spanish musical tradition linked to universities that has been known for centuries as “the tunas”. And 100 of them will welcome the Pope during World Youth Day in Madrid!

Children Get Ready to Become Young 'Swiss Guards' to Welcome Pope to WYD

The Swiss Guard is the Pope's defense corps. One hundred and ten of them guard his residence and stand tall during the Vatican's main ceremonies. This will be a bit different for World Youth Day. When Benedict XVI visits Spain in August, security will increase and the Pope will have a very special defense team. The group is called the Young Swiss Guard. About 60 children, dressed in the unique and traditional uniform are hoping they'll make the Pope feels welcome.
