The recently ordained Chinese bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin has been reported missing according to media sources in Hong Kong. Bishop Ma Daqin was ordained as the auxiliary bishop of Shanghai on July 7 with the approval of the Pope.
Chinese Catholics gathered on July 8 for his first Sunday Mass as Bishop, only to find that Ma Daquin had gone missing and was said to be in a “period of rest” in the Sheshan seminary. This apparently happened after the bishop declared he would resign from the State controlled Church of the Patriotic Association during his ordination Mass. Click here to read more.
