August 9th marks the 70th anniversary of the death of Edith Stein. She was a German nun that was killed in the gas chambers of the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1942. Originally born into a Jewish family, she was an Atheist as a teenager, and later baptized in 1922 at the age of thirty. She was then received into the Discalced Carmelite Order as a postulant in 1934.
