Synod 'Of the Media' Has Begun - Keep Informed!

What is a 'Synod of the Media'? Speaking of Vatican II in his last exchange with the priests of his diocese, Pope Benedict distinguished between the 'Council of the Fathers' and the 'Council of the Media':

"There was the Council of the Fathers - the true Council - but there was also the Council of the media. It was almost a Council in and of itself, and the world perceived the Council through them, through the media. So the immediately efficiently Council that got thorough to the people, was that of the media, not that of the Fathers."

Sound familiar?

Benedict XVI was right, and as Josh Miechels explains in this blog, if you want to know about the reality and not the fantasy of what is happening at the Synod, read the actual reports and briefer summaries that it is putting out. Zenit News is a high quality free source of these in English.

Do not base your opinions on the Synod by what you are reading the Secular press. It is simply not correct! There is no excuse... let us be informed, educated Catholics, who do not get carried away by false headlines.

The hypocrisy of both the so called conservative and orthodox and progressive Catholics is sadly unsurprising. The media is twisting it both in Orthodox and Progressive outlets. Neither side has the spine to address the real issues of the Church, being unmarried people over 30 and the mental health epidemic, instead it's easy to focus on gay debates.

Here is a link to the released document for those interested in reading from the source. http://press.vatican.va/content/salastampa/en/bollettino/pubblico/2014/10/13/0751/03037.html

I feel for priests who at this time are no doubt having to deal with people's difficult situations and who are faced with the attitude that Church teachings and disciplines have now been changed.

May the Synod Fathers be guided by the Holy Spirit.
