7 Reasons You Can’t Figure Out What Vocation You’re Called To

One of the great joys of being a teacher is watching my students' growing awareness of who or what they want to become. When they finally voice that decision for 'engineer', 'designer', 'university student', 'apprentice', I very often see a mix of composure, elation, eagerness and resolve in their faces and I know that, to some degree, my job is done. They are ready to move on.

For many students, however, there is a real struggle to understand their place in life; they seem rootless, restless and unsure of themselves and their talents. These students, far more than the others, provoke a sense of paternal compassion and a desire to provide some guidance and direction. I feel this, too, when I hear young Catholics talk about struggling to find their vocation.
