Pier Giorgio Frassati and Dominican Charism During WYD

This year marks the 800th Jubilee of the Foundation of the Order of Preachers, more commonly known as the Dominicans. Together with youth serving at Dominican monasteries, they want to celebrate this anniversary during World Youth Day.

On the day before the arrival of Pope Francis in Krakow - Wednesday, July 27 - the Dominicans are organizing a meeting for chaplaincies and youth associated with the Dominicans in their monastery - the Basilica of the Holy Trinity. "We will organize a Night Vigil on Wednesday evening for Dominican chaplaincies and young people associated with the Dominicans around the world. We hope that the Master of the Order, Father Bruno Cadore, will be present. This year marks the 800th jubilee of the Order, which is why, on the occasion of World Youth Day, we want to experience this anniversary with our youth," says Fr. Piotr Ciuba, prior of the monastery in Krakow.

Relics of Pier Giorgio Frassati, whom the Holy Father Francis recalled in his message for World Youth Day, will be present in the Dominican basilica. The church will be open to Dominican youth and all those who will come to Krakow for World Youth Day. Pilgrims will be able to familiarize themselves with the figure of the Blessed by viewing an exhibit or reading materials prepared in several different languages.

"Pope Francis writes about Pier Giorgio Frassati, who lived testifying. The saints are not just here to intercede for us; we can also learn from their example. Frassati shows us that living the Gospel in a practical and concrete manner is possible. Like him, we can help the sick, poor, and homeless, or we can embody mercy in our own way," added the prior.

First, the relics of Pier Giorgio Frassati will peregrinate through Polish monasteries and places where young people live his charism. They will arrive in Krakow during World Youth Day.

The Dominicans plan to open their monastery garden and arrange within it a cafe. There, people will be able to drink coffee, talk about various topics, and become better aquainted with the figure of Pier Giorgio Frassati.
