A Brief Catechism for Catholic Voters

This Brief Catechism for Catholic Voters was published for Americans ahead of the US election in 2008. However, with several nations around the world, including Australia, facing elections in coming months, it is appropriate to look at some of these principles and apply them to your local elections. I found it difficult to find out what individual politicians believe, unless they have said something in the media or in the Hansard (http://www.aph.gov.au/hansard/index.htm). Or they have something on the internet about it.

Political Parties are easier to distingish their policies. The main pro-life parties in Australia are the Democratic Labor Party, Family First and the Christian Democrats.

I encourage anyone voting to vote BELOW the line - yes it may be tedious, but you can select exactly where your preferences go. I don't trust the parties to decide for me.

Elective abortion is illegal in Australian. Australian catholics should vote for those who respect the rights of the largest religion in the country -Catholics! I think the catholic church in Australia should show greater concern in paedophile proofing the church than in our same-same political parties.

The Australian Christian Lobby invited all parties contesting the upcoming election to respond to a questionnaire on their policy position - all their responses are collated here: http://www.xt3.com/library/view.php?id=3495

This is very helpful for any Australian voting in the upcoming election!

Mary, you're not only beautiful, you're also a legend. Many thanks for that. I just seem to hit brick walls every time I try to understand the different party policies. This will be a good help.
