Join pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Sydney on the Road to Madrid!

The ‘Exodus Encounter’ is one of a number of pilgrimages thousands of young people are taking prior to WYD in Madrid.

Around 100 young people will be led by His Eminence the Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell on an exhilarating two-week journey through the desert wilderness of Egypt and the Holy Land in Israel.

Beginning in Cairo, the young pilgrims will follow the ancient paths of the prophets visiting spectacular historical and Holy sites.

From the great Pyramids at Giza to the Sphinx and the Hanging Church; the Gulf of Suez and the summit of Mt Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments.

On descent the group will visit the Monastery of St Catherine which has a world renowned collection of ancient illuminated manuscripts and many valuable icons considered second in importance to the Vatican.

It is then on to the Red Sea before crossing into Israel and to Masada, Herod’s fortress and the Dead Sea to float around in the salty waters said to have healing qualities.

The journey continues to Jericho, Nazareth, Cana and Capernaum. At Galilee we join up with hundreds of other pilgrims, Bishops and priests from around Australia for a special Mass on Lake Galilee.

The group will visit Caesarea, Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall, Bethlehem, Mt Zion and the many other Holy sites.

A camera crew will accompany the group, capturing all the amazing sites, prayers and reflections.

There will also be interviews along the way with Cardinal Pell and the young people, including a group of disabled pilgrims determined to be part of this amazing experience.
