Pope to Youth: 'Go and Make Disciples'... Go Beyond the Confines of What is Humanly Possible

After a 12 hour flight, Pope Francis made it to Brazil. During his first official speech, he thanked Brazil for its hospitality, adding that he hopes to give them, the most valuable gift of all - Jesus Christ. Speaking in Portuguese, the Pope said that through World Youth Day, he hopes to make disciples of all nations. He also encouraged the youth, to go above and beyond what's expected.

In this interview, Bishop Julian Porteous, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney comments on the Papal arrival, the reaction of the Brazilian locals to the Holy Father, and provides an update on what his group has been involved in during Mission Week! Cardinal Pell Lends a Hand and Visits All Aussie Mission Sites in Lima, Peru

On his last day in Lima, Cardinal George Pell visited each of the sites where the young Aussie pilgrims had been working on mission projects prior to flying into Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day. And at one site where the group was building a concrete stairway into the muddy and steep hillside of a shanty town. He joined the bucket line to get the last of the concrete up the incline to the last steps. Check out the photos here!

Martin de Porres, Rose de Lima, and a Taste of Peruvian Culture - Xt3's WYD Video Blog 2

On their first full day in Lima, Peru, Cardinal George Pell accompanied a group of Sydney WYD pilgrims to visit the House of St. Martin de Porres, followed by the Basilica of St. Rose de Lima, where they celebrated Mass and prayed the Stations of the Cross to spiritually prepare for several days of mission work in Peru. WYD Pilgrims Confronted by Poverty of Peru's Dispossessed

For the past two days WYD pilgrims from the Sydney Archdiocese, the Australian Catholic University and Catholic schools across Sydney are helping to build a chapel, a community centre as well as a series of concrete stairs and paths in Pamplona Alta, a Peruvian shanty town on the outskirts of Lima. Brazil in Numbers - Largest Number of Catholics in the World!

When Pope Francis arrives in Brazil for WYD 2013, he will be landing in the country with the highest number of Catholics in the world. About 165 million, or 84,5 percent of the population is Catholic, other religions in the country include Protestant and spiritist denominations.

The World's Largest Flash-Mob Meets Pope Francis

World Youth Day wants to take the world by surprise. So among other events, on Sunday July 28th, an enormous flash-mob is being organized, featuring two million dancers. Its creators have even produced a video explaining the various dance steps, just in case more people want to join in.
