WYD2016 Blog11 - A Pilgrim's Guide to Divine Mercy Shrine

Located in the District of Lagiewniki in Faustyny street, The Divine Mercy Sanctuary is the resting place of Saint Faustina Kowalska. It is here that pilgrims can see the miraculous image of Jesus Christ with rays of red and white coming out of his Sacred heart. This Divine Mercy image was that which Sister Faustina saw in her visions and which Jesus asked her to have painted so that it could be venerated by the whole world. Watch the latest video blog here.

World Youth Day is Not Tourism, It's a Pilgrimage: Interview

Father Joao Chagas is responsible for the Pontifical Council for the Laity's section for the youth. He says that Pope Francis will ask the youth something very special: "For the Jubilee of Mercy, we know that the Pope also will ask young people from throughout the world, as Pope John Paul II already has, to take the call for mercy back to every country after they return.” World Youth Day has changed many young people's lives, however as Father Chagas notes, it is not a holiday - it is a pilgrimage. WYD Minute - Krakow 2016. Episodes 1-3 Now Available

"WYD Minute" is a new video series released by the Local Organising Committee for World Youth Day 2016, with weekly updates and news from the WYD team in Krakow. Episode 1 has an update on the national pilgrimage with the WYD Cross and Icon, as well as the filming of the official video for the WYD Hymn. In Episode 2, we receive news about the released of the official promo video for WYD2016, as well as an update on the number of registrations for world Youth Day so far. And in Episode 3 we receive an insight into how the WYD office celebrated of the feast day of Pope John Paul II, patron of World Youth Day. Getting to Know a Polish Martyr - Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko

Today is the feast day of Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko, a Polish martyr would not deny his faith under the communist regime in Poland despite threats of torture and punishment. On one occasion, when Blessed Jerzy refused to crush his rosary beneath his heel he was cruelly beaten and placed in solitary confinement for a month. In 1984 he was murdered for continuing to preach against the communist regime and their ongoing persecution of the Church. Blessed Jerzy, pray for us.

WYD2016 Video Blog 9 - Saint Kinga, Polish Princess and Saint

Saint Kinga, patroness of Poland and Lithuania, was a Polish princess who is recognised as a saint in the Catholic Church. During her reign, Kinga got involved in charitable works such as visiting the poor and helping the lepers. When her husband died in 1279, she sold all her material possessions and gave the money to the poor. She was canonised on 16 June 1999 by Pope John Paul II. A Young Brazilian Sells Chocolate for WYD

Selling candies and other foods is already something common amongst Brazilian pilgrims, who dream of attending WYD in another country. However, a 27 years old young man from Santo Andre, in Sao Paulo, has done something a little less common: he created a complete line of truffles inspired by the greatest event for young Catholics in the world. St Faustina, Patron of WYD2016 - Feast Day 5 October

Sister Mary Faustina, an apostle of the Divine Mercy, belongs today to the group of the most popular and well-known saints of the Church. Through her the Lord Jesus communicates to the world the great message of God's mercy and reveals the pattern of Christian perfection based on trust in God and on the attitude of mercy toward one's neighbors. We celebrate her feast day on 5 October. She is the patron saint of World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow! Pray for us.

Blessed Klara Louise Szczensa, A Model for WYD Pilgrims
