Stop Hijacking Jesus’ Talents

We’ve all had important figures we’ve tried to emulate. If you’re Catholic you’ll know that the saints are such a “cloud of witnesses,” who exemplify Christ-like living for us. And while we’re talking about Jesus, is he not ultimately the one all Christians are meant to model? Being inspired to emulate is good, but I’ve found sometimes inspiration can be a letdown.

In an effort to provide abused children with a safe way to reach out for help, a Spanish organization called the Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk Foundation, or ANAR for short, created an ad that displays a different message for adults and children at the same time.

In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other replies, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.” “Nonsense,” says the other. “There is no life after delivery. What would that life be?” “I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths.”

Why do we believe in a book (the Bible) with things we would view as morally wrong?

Why are we instructed to believe in a book that contains things we would view in today’s society as morally wrong? There is a distinction here between believing in the Bible and believing in the God that is revealed in the Bible through Jesus Christ. As Catholics, we affirm that the Bible contains sacred scripture, which was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, but that “in sacred scripture, God speaks through human beings in human fashion.” (Dei Verbum, Vatican II) Read more here.

Woman Arrested Over Racist Taunts that United Train Passengers

The incident, on a service to Craigieburn last Wednesday night, made national headlines after passengers showed their support for two fellow commuters who became the target of racist remarks. One of the passengers, Mahmood Sereaph Reza, 27, who stood up against racial abuse directed against him and friend Michael Awan, said he bore the woman no ill-will."My heart goes out to her," he said.Mr Reza hailed the national reaction to the disturbing incident."The fact that we're all united and we stand as a united front is obviously a beautiful thing, and it's something that should be commended.
