Did Chinese Firefighters Waste Their Time in Saving ‘Unwanted’ Baby in Pipe?

Last edited 30th May 2013

An opinion piece by Gina L. Diorio - A human rights victory emerged this weekend in an unlikely location as firefighters in China rushed to free a newborn baby wedged in a sewer pipe beneath a squat toilet in a residential building. It appears that the infant – just 6 pounds, 2.8 ounces and with his placenta still attached – was dumped down the toilet by his mother.

Your Cheap Clothing Has a High Price

Last edited 17th May 2013

When the Rana Plaza garment factory building collapsed on April 24, crushing hundreds of workers under a pile of concrete and machinery that used to be an eight-story factory building, it was like lifting a rock in your garden and finding a snake’s nest full of baby rattlers. Something that most of the world preferred to keep out of sight was exposed to full view. The latest body count as of this writing is 640, but that is sure to rise as more bodies are pulled from the wreckage. (Ed: It is now more than 1,100.)

Teaching My Younger Sister About Sex and Love

Last edited 16th May 2013

I recently completed a graduate course in character education in which we were required to carry out an "action project." For my project I chose to use character-based sex education to try to instill in my younger sister and her friend the self-respect, self-control, and courage needed to lead moral, fulfilling, and healthy lives.

What is Emotional Chastity?

Last edited 13th May 2013

Chastity is not just about our physical sexual desires, it about so much more than that. Because we aren’t just bodies – we are bodies, hearts, minds, and souls, and chastity is about purity in all of those areas. Emotional chastity is about guarding the purity of our hearts and minds . . . which can sometimes be just as challenging as guarding the purity of our bodies.

A Day in a Refugee Camp: I’ll Never Be The Same - Matt Darvas

Last edited 10th May 2013

Nakivale Refugee Camp is a place you and I could hardly begin to imagine. I’m not talking about the living conditions or material poverty present in the camp (both of which are imaginably appalling) but the strength of the human spirit present there amongst even the most afflicted of people. People like Steven and Joseph*, whose stories you’re about to hear. In Nakivale, the most unthinkable human suffering exists alongside the most radiant flashes of hope and courage. It is experiencing this that changed my life forever and hopefully, by the end of this article, will change yours too

Stop Hijacking Jesus’ Talents

Last edited 8th May 2013

We’ve all had important figures we’ve tried to emulate. If you’re Catholic you’ll know that the saints are such a “cloud of witnesses,” who exemplify Christ-like living for us. And while we’re talking about Jesus, is he not ultimately the one all Christians are meant to model? Being inspired to emulate is good, but I’ve found sometimes inspiration can be a letdown.
