Bodies Found in Semi-Trailer in Walmart Parking lot in Texas in Suspected Human Trafficking Case

At least nine people have died after more than 100 were jammed into a semi-trailer in Texas in unbearable heat in a suspected human trafficking case. Eight dead bodies were found in the truck.

One person died later at hospital. Based on initial interviews with survivors, Thomas Homan, acting director of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said there may have been more than 100 people in the truck.

Thirty-eight were found inside. The rest are believed to have fled or been picked up. Mr Homan says some survivors have identified themselves as Mexican nationals. Four of the passengers are believed to be between 10 and 17 years old, and at least one of them is in serious condition.

The initial eight dead were found in a semi-trailer loaded with at least 30 others outside a Walmart store in San Antonio in Texas’ stifling summer heat in what police are calling a horrific human trafficking case.

The driver was arrested.Authorities said that twenty other people were in extremely critical or serious condition and eight more had lesser injuries including heat stroke and dehydration. The truck had no working air conditioning system despite blistering temperatures that topped 37C, authorities said.

The temperature inside the truck would have been almost 50C, Associated Press reported.
