Kansas, First State to Ban 'Dismemberment Abortion'

Kansas became on Tuesday the first state to ban abortions by a procedure known as “dilation and evacuation,” which is common during second-trimester abortions and is called “dismemberment abortion” in the law. Local pro-life advocates say the legislation is an opportunity to save the unborn from a horrific procedure, while providing a model for other states.

UK MPs Vote Against Introducing Ban on Sex-Selective Abortions

MPs have voted against a proposed change in the law that would have outlawed abortions on the grounds of gender. Fiona Bruce, the Conservative MP for Congleton, Cheshire, hoped to move an amendment to Section 5 of the Serious Crime Bill which would have explicitly made such abortions illegal. However, 292 MPs voted against the amendment, with 201 voting in favour.

British MPs are tabling a parliamentary amendment today which would outlaw sex-selective abortion. Seventy-three MPs signed an amendment to the Serious Crime Bill which would clarify that the Abortion Act does not permit a pregnancy to be terminated on the grounds of the sex of the unborn child.
