In a recent edition of Canada’s National Post Mona Eltahawy, an Egyptian woman, wrote about the rampant practice of female genital mutilation (FMG). In the same edition Jen Gerson wrote a piece lamenting access to abortion in Canada and the need for increased chemical abortions. Ironically, one cultural practice goes to horrific lengths because a woman’s purity is paramount, whereas another cultural practice goes to horrific lengths because a woman’s sexual freedom is paramount. Either way, the woman’s true interests are subordinated to the village, or dominant culture.

Women of the Bible Featuring Lot's Wife Lot's wife lived a tough life dwelling in the sinful place that was Sodom and Gomorrah. It is interesting to put yourself in her shoes, what did she think when her husband offered her virgin daughters to a crowd full of men wanting to rape the guests that were staying with them? Why did she disobey the angels orders turning back to see the evil town being destroyed? What can we learn from her story today? Lot's Wife's legacy in scripture - Read Genesis 19:1-26.

I Never Want to be a Priest.

“Do you want to be a priest” isn’t just a question that was asked because I was woman studying theology. I think it comes from a deeper place, I think people are genuinely curious why the Catholic Church teaches that the priesthood is reserved to men. And let’s be honest, some people aren’t just curious about it, they are angry about it.

How many people look in the mirror every morning and feel inadequate and just ugly? These ladies didn’t know what to expect at first but then they realised the mirror started talking to them. Pope Francis has named Australian theologian Tracey Rowland among the new female members of the International Theological Commission. The Vatican announced her appointment on 23 September, along with those of Sister Prudence Allen RSM, Sister Alenka Arko, Dr Moira McQueen and Prof Marianne Schlosser.

The ratio of female to male infants continues to decline in India and a recent report by the United Nations warned that urgent action is needed to reverse the trend. The report, “‘Sex Ratios and Gender Biased Sex Selection: History, Debates and Future Directions,” was published by the organization UN Women. The ratio has gone from 976 girls to 1000 boys in 1961, to 927 girls in 2001, and to 918 girls in 2011.
