The name and devotion to Our Lady of the Divine Providence originated in Italy in the thirteenth century, and refers to Mary, Mother of God, in relationship with Divine Providence. This title of Mary has roots in Scripture. It is often attributed to Mary's intervention at the wedding in Cana - Christ's first public miracle that occasioned by the intercession of his mother.

Our Lady of Sorrows, Pray for Us

On 15 September the Catholic Church marks the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. This feast is dedicated to the spiritual martyrdom of Mary, Mother of God, and her compassion with the sufferings of her Divine Son, Jesus. In her suffering as co-redeemer, she reminds us of the tremendous evil of sin and shows us the way of true repentance.


The Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary - 12 September

This feast day began in Spain in 1513. In 1683 Pope Innocent XI extended the existing Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary to the universal Church to thank Our Lady for the victory of John Sobieski, king of Poland, over the forces of militant Islam.

The feast day of Mary Help of Christians has been celebrated in Australia since 1844 but the history to this day dates back to the start of the 1800's.


Soldiers Lay Down Weapons for Rosaries as they Pray, Pay Homage to Mary

It looked like any other military parade with bands playing, flags waving and thousands of men and women marching in colorful uniforms decorated with medals and ribbons. But instead of impressive displays of tanks and trucks, troops from dozens of nations fell in line behind religious banners, a large wooden cross and a rose-strewn statue of Mary. Candles and rosaries - not weapons or rifles - were held aloft in soldiers' hands.
