In some parts of India and China, the biggest risk newborns face is being born female. But the challenge, continues moments after their birth... as some of them are killed by their own parents, or even by the doctor. It's described as as 'gendercide.' The United Nations estimates that roughly 200 million girls are 'missing,' meaning they were aborted or abandoned, specifically because they were female.

Girls are under so much pressure to conform to an unrealistic standard, and are being pushed to believe that the value of womanhood lies in how 'sexy' they are. The guys from the Saint Agnes, CT Lifeteen are tired of seeing their friends hurt by these lies... It doesn't have to be this way! In this video, a group of young men remind all women not to believe the lies, and not to be afraid to demand the dignity and love they know they deserve. The Catholic Women's League of Victoria and Wagga Wagga was founded in 1916 by a visionary group of young women who sought to change the world through prayer and action. Since then, members of the League have played a dynamic role on the local, national and international stage. The inaugural President of the League was a gifted young doctor called Mary Glowrey who later, as Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart JMJ, placed her life at the service of the medical and spiritual needs of the people of India. Her cause for canonisation commenced in November 2010.

International Women's Day 2012

March 8th marks International Women's Day - which is a day to recognize the contributions women make to society, and also a time to see what improvements are needed. To mark the occasion, the Holy See addressed the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations in New York. There, a Vatican delegation talked about the rights of women who live in rural areas, whose rights are unfortunately often ignored.
